Getting Ready To Throw In The Towel?

June 2014 Insights

Once again I find myself sharing a newsletter that is inspired by a conversation I had with one of my children. This time it was with my almost 14 year old son, Jake. Jake was struggling and feeling particularly frustrated studying for his advanced placement math exams that were coming up, he was lamenting to me about this challenge and commented he would have been better off just staying in regular math classes rather then “having to work so hard”. Naturally, as a mom and a life coach this sparked further conversation that led to the importance of aspiring for more from ourselves, setting goals that safely push us out of our comfort zones and when faced with adversity learning to dig deep and persevere. Unsurprisingly, this was meet with a bit of resistance and a lot of eye rolling but in the end I do think Jake (though he will likely never admit it) realized he wasn’t ready to throw in the towel yet and at the very least stopped complaining and went back to studying. It Doesn’t Have To Be So Intense

 May 2014 Insights

Ok, let’s change gears and lighten it up a bit this month. Yes, I know last newsletter I asked you guys to dig deep and invest some serious time in getting clear about those personal, internal challenges getting in your way of greater success and happiness. But this month we are going to bring it down a notch. Though undoubtably, getting clear from the inside out is a necessary reality for anyone seeking their higher potential, sometimes what gets in our way isn’t all that complicated nor emotionally charged. Don’t Stop Believing

 March 2014 Insights

The other day my 11 year old daughter very candidly asked me if I knew whether or not Harvard University has a dance program. When I asked why she wanted to know she simply responded by saying that “since I plan to attend Harvard after I graduate high school, I’m hoping to still be able to dance, because you know mom that really is my true passion and though I don’t want to be a professional dancer I still want to be able to “seriously” dance.”

Wow, was all I could think! Of course as her mother it’s my job to support and encourage her but at the same time I couldn’t help but wonder if maybe I should sit down with her and gently explain that the likelihood of her getting in Harvard University was pretty slim while at the same time maintaining a rigorous dance program would certainly be biting off more than one can chew. The Power Of Gratitude

 November 2013 Insights

What better month to write about the virtues of gratitude then in November when we celebrate Thanksgiving, the holiday particularly known for acknowledging our blessings and taking stock in all that is good in our lives. I’ve actually been wanting to write about the concept of gratitude for awhile now because it too is just as instrumental in enhancing our lives as are any of the strategies, tools and insights I share with my clients. Since many people seem to think that the primary focus of my work with clients is mostly about what’s not working in their lives, I really wanted to take this newsletter to share how creating positive change in one’s life is actually more about looking for what is working in your life and not obsessing about what is not. Building upon our strengths and examining the positive aspects of our lives is just as integral to creating greater success and fulfillment as is eliminating anything that is counterproductive to our ambitions.
