Do Any Of These Thoughts Resonate With You?

March 2013 Insights

  • “I’m not ________ (smart, pretty, capable, fit, organized, motivated, focused, lucky,  …) enough to pull that off.”
  • “Why should I bother, how likely is it that….”
  • “Life is hard and filled with disappointments, just deal with it.”
  • “It is what it is, some people have it and I’m just not one of them”.
  • “There’s no way I can handle/manage that. I just have to accept that myneeds are not a priority right now.”
  • “I feel like I have no control over  _________, there’s not much I can do about it.”
  • “It’s too late in the game now. I’m ___ years old. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.”
  • “It’s one fight after another. Nothing is going to change.”

Well, you’re not alone. We all have limiting thoughts that show up when we are challenged. These thoughts are a product of our past experiences, beliefs we have developed through the years, and social messages we have been exposed to telling us that this is just the way it is. Unfortunately, if we leave these thoughts unattended to, they become a self-generating and regenerating prophecy. They can ultimately make or break how successful you will be at obtaining any and all of your aspirations and desires.

How we think is something to seriously consider. I believe it to be THE essential element to creating greater success and fulfillment in one’s life. Yes, there are other important elements like skills, resources, and even good fortune but when faced with adversity and stress, how we perceive ourselves and the circumstances around us, will be the deciding factor in determining the outcome of your life.

Think about it, the impact of our thoughts is huge. They are the driving force behind how we feel. How we feel then directly affects how we behave and/or react in any given situation. So if your thoughts are counterproductive to your life objectives, how likely will it be that you will be successful in reaching any of your goals and more importantly obtaining greater happiness in your life?

Listen, it’s natural to engage in some level of negative thinking. We all do from time to time, it’s hard not to. Life can be challenging and difficult. But the key to greater success and fulfillment is to NOT FOSTER AND ALLOW YOURSELF TO INDULGE TOO LONG IN ANY COUNTERPRODUCTIVE THOUGHTS THAT WILL LIMIT YOU FROM OBTAINING YOUR LIFE OBJECTIVES AND WELL-BEING. Rather, consider taking a more positive and opportunistic view on life. Choose to believe that life can be what you make of it regardless of how complicated and stressful it can be.

Now I understand many of you may be thinking that’s easier said than done. Believe me, I am not trying to sugar coat anything here nor am I suggesting to try and  pretend that life is a bunch of roses. I”ll be the first one to admit that life can get pretty ugly and messy. However, what I am asking you to consider is taking full responsibility for your thoughts, emotions and actions. Choose, just for one week, to replace those “I’m not good enough” thoughts or “that can never happen” attitude and seek the glass is half full perspective. I guarantee it will bring you that much closer to reaching your goals and even more importantly experiencing more moments of joy in your life.

Unsurprisingly, as a woman’s self-empowerment life coach I do believe life can be lived more purposefully, effectively and happily. It’s really just a matter of having the right attitude, the right tools, and gaining the self-awareness needed to know how you want to create your life rather then having it create you.  If you’re truly ready to enhance your life I promise great things will happen!

Start now, squash that negative self-talk, you no longer have to be defined by your past.

…And remember it’s my pleasure to support in anyway I can. I’m always available to meet with you for a complimentary session.

Best wishes for success!
